Small Things

This photo is one I snapped on holiday. I accidentally killed a small (about 6mm long) Zebra spider. Within a few minutes, a swarm of ants were all over the carcass. The ants were tiny little things, no more than a third of the size of our domestic ants (which I presume you all remember I hate with a vengeance!)
These foreign ants were actually quite cute little things, literally only about 2mm long. I hadn’t seen a single one until the spider accidentally met his maker. Then there was this ant frenzy going on for about 15 minutes, after which they all disappeared again, and I never saw a single ant after that. I never saw where they came from or where they went to either. Not only that, the spider carcass had completely disappeared. It wasn’t carted off as far as I could see… it was just completely devoured (unless it was just dissected into incredibly small pieces). There honestly wasn’t even a speck of dust size piece of spider body left on the ceramic tile.
