Topping It Off
At the end of a pretty crap year as far as much of my personal life goes, it was topped off today with the news that an old and dear friend of mine has been shot whilst on duty. At the risk of identifying myself (though Katie doesn’t know I do this), Katie and I have been friends for a long time, and I was completely stunned when a mutual friend told me that she had been the victim in question. I’m still in a daze now.
I was working today and heard the news on the radio a couple of times throughout the day. I was saddened to hear that yet another officer had been shot, but no names were mentioned and so I thought nothing of it. It takes on a whole new spin when you’re suddenly given the news that it’s not only someone that you know, but someone that you hold so dear. It also reminds us that it can be any one of us, at any time. Pity Jacqui Smith couldn’t give two hoots about that.
Anyway, I don’t want to dwell on anything today. Thankfully, KJ is going to be physically ok - but who knows what the mental scars may be. For a tiny might she’s as tough as anyone I know though so I’m sure she’ll pull through and be fine.
All my love Katie for a speedy recovery,
AC

PS - Happy New Year to all my readers. I’d like to think next year will be better for me than this one, but I have a feeling there will be a lot of up and downs.

AC I am so sorry to hear the news of your friend. I wish her a speedy recovery, and I wish you and your family all the best. (not just for 2008, but for always)
Someone tried to hack into Mr Mans Computer once via the internet. It’s funny when these people who think they know so much about the internet don’t realise that their actions can be traced. After some investigating, Mr Man sent the person in question a polite email to ask them not to do it again and the person nearly cacked their pants!

Hi Ac,
My thoughts are with your friend, this is terrible, I cannot begin to imagine what it is like to go through such a horrible trauma. Know that the vast majority of the public are so grateful for people such as your colleague and yourself and all the police who put their very lives on the line to keep the public safe. It comes as an enormous human cost that gets brought home at times like this.
I hope for the speedy recovery in body and spirit for your colleague.
AC, i hope that 2008 is a time of joy and is a better year for you in every way and that you can experience in many ways the gratefulness of the people you work to protect and help.
BEst wishes, and thoughts to you,
sincerely
Ned

It’s this kind of entry which drives home how the news affects people close to it. We hear it all the time, but then you hear from somebody whose blog you’ve been reading for years that it was their friend. I am so glad to hear that Katie will recover, and I hope it doesn’t stop her going back out there and continuing to
